Policy and Strategy Development and Analysis

 
Our policy and strategy capability extends to all levels of local and central government, and includes policy analysis, plan development, and strategy development. Our mix of experienced planning and traffic staff allows us to advise on all policy sectors with a specialisation in transport policy. We have experience in managing, writing and developing plans, policies and strategies under the Resource Management Act, Land Transport Act, and Local Government Act, as well as preparing non-statutory strategies. Hastings Walking and Cycling Strategy - Beyond iWay

Project Objective: 
Develop a strategy, prioritisation system and economic evaluation for walking and cycling projects and activities

Implementing a Central City Slow Core in Christchurch

Project Objective: 
Provide transport planning and engineering advice for a reduced speed zone ("slow core") for central Christchurch

Reduced traffic speeds have been shown to improve central city liveability and street activity levels. This ViaStrada project suggested the boundaries, specific techniques, design concepts, and implementation steps needed to create a pedestrian-friendly "slow core" for Christchurch.

Greymouth Pedestrian Linkages

Project Objective:

A Standardised Approach to RoNS in Christchurch

Project Objective: 
Develop a policy document to aid CCC staff in managing transport and land use for the Roads of National Significance (RoNS)

After extensive planning, the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has begun construction of a nine-year, $700M+ series of projects, the Christchurch Roads of National Significance (RoNS).

ViaStrada produced a discussion document identifying various principles to clarify and standardise the CCC's position on RoNS and helped CCC staff and other stakeholders understand the complex inter-relationships amongst the many projects.

Taupo District Walking and Cycling Strategy

Project Objective: 
Update Council's walking and cycling strategy

The Taupo District Council (TDC) commissioned ViaStrada Ltd to lead the update to the existing walking and cycling strategy.  ViaStrada director Andrew Macbeth and transport planner John Lieswyn convened three workshops with key stakeholders. The revised strategy proceeded through four draft stages before the TDC staff presented the final draft to Council in September 2008.

ViaStrada produced a supplementary Action Plan with a strong asset management focus to assist Council staff with implementation.  The client praised ViaStrada for producing a concise strategy and was especially pleased with the format and usability of the Action Plan.

Selwyn District Plan Review

Project Objective: 
Review the District Plan transport provisions and align them with Council's strategic direction.

The Selwyn District Council (SDC) proposes to revise the District Plan's transport provisions to ensure they reflect the strategic direction of Council. Recent updates and amendments to national and regional policy documents will also be reviewed.
