Resource Management Act (RMA) Changes
Proposed changes to the Resource Management Act (RMA) are, according to the Ministry for the Environment, due to come into force around 1 September 2009. These changes are proposed to streamline resource consent processes, but practitioners are yet to be convinced.
If you are contemplating a development or looking at needing resource consent, contact one of our planners early in the concept stage, who can advise on the upcoming changes.

Auckland Learning Quarter cycling study - Completed
ViaStrada has now completed the Auckland Learning Quarter cycling study. This was a comprehensive cycling review for the "Learning Quarter", the campus area of the University of Auckland and the Auckland University of Technology (AUT), in the Auckland CBD.

Cashmere Road - 26 child pre-school
ViaStrada staff prepared and lodged a resource consent application (which included noise and traffic assessments) on behalf of Wilkie Enterprises Ltd for a 26 child pre-school on an existing residential property in suburban Christchurch.

Lincoln Baptist Church Complex
ViaStrada staff prepared and lodged a resource consent application, Assessment of Effects on the Environment, and a Noise Assessment for a large new church facility for Lincoln Baptist Church on the outskirts of Lincoln.

McFaddens Road - 50 child pre-school
ViaStrada staff successfully obtained resource consent for the Minerva Trust for a new purpose-built pre-school on McFaddens Road, Christchurch.

Oxford - 25 child pre-school
ViaStrada staff prepared Noise Assessments and Traffic Impact Assessments, and presented planning, noise (Environmental Health) and traffic evidence to an Independent Commissioner for the establishment of a 25 child pre-school in Oxford.

Declined Consent - Gardens of the World
The Nelson office received a surprise decision from Tasman District Council declining consent for a high profile proposal for a crematorium, memorial gardens and café at the Gardens of the World near Richmond.

TrainingCourses
Advanced Cycle Planning and Design Training Course
On behalf of NZTA, ViaStrada is developing an Advanced Cycling Planning and Design Course to expand on the Fundamentals of Planning and Design for Cycling course. Training courses will start in September 2009 with a course in Christchurch. Another course is planned for November in New Plymouth. Further courses are in the planning stage, with details available on the training course web page.

Fundamentals of Planning and Design for Cycling - Auckland

ViaStrada runs a series of award-winning one-day courses to introduce the principles of planning and design for cycling in New Zealand. Developed in conjunction with the NZ Transport Agency to meet the needs of the NZ transportation industry.
