Megan Fowler wins young author's award
Megan Fowler has won the prestigious IPENZ Transportation Conference 'Best Young Author' award at the 2008 conference in New Plymouth. Megan's paper, co-authored by Axel Wilke, was entitled "Staged Pedestrian Crossings".

Walking Planning & Design Workshop
NZTA and the Christchurch City Council are planning to hold a one day applied workshop based around the Pedestrian Planning and Design Guide, on Friday 5 December (now rescheduled to 15 Dec)

University Transport Project Mentoring
The University of Canterbury introduced a new course this year - Transport Design Project. Industry mentors assisted groups of four students during the course of the project. Jeanette Ward and Axel Wilke mentored one of the groups
Ellerslie International Flower Show
ViaStrada obtained a non-notified land use consent for TMPC (2009) Ltd for the annual hosting of the Ellerslie International Flower Show at North Hagley Park, Christchurch.

Staged Pedestrian Crossings
The safety of pedestrians crossing multi-lane road intersections is often threatened by filtering turning vehicles. The introduction of staged pedestrian crossings can provide more protection to pedestrians by allowing greater control of the traffic.

2008 IPENZ Transportation Conference, New Plymouth
ViaStrada staff attended the 2008 NZ Transportation Conference in New Plymouth and contributed to the profession's development by giving four presentations.
2008 SNUG Workshop, Whangarei
ViaStrada staff attended the 2008 Signals NZ User Group (SNUG) workshop in Whangarei and gave two presentations. Jeanette Ward spoke about protected right turns, and Axel Wilke presented on staged pedestrian crossings.
