MTB Fun
For the third year running, ViaStrada entered teams in the 6 hour blast at McLeans Forest Park on the banks of the Waimakariri River about 20 km north of Christchurch. Our "A" team brought home some silverware against some very stiff opposition! Well done to John, Axel and Rick.

Further MOTSAM Update
NZTA commissioned ViaStrada to update more MOTSAM (Manual of Traffic Signs and Markings) material. Gone are all the old double limit lines, for example. The guidance on the marking of hook turn boxes for cyclists has been amended, and Section 2 now references the upcoming Austroads Guide to Road Design manuals.

Woodend Western Bypass Assessment
The Waimakariri District Council (WDC) commissioned ViaStrada to undertake a high level assessment of the possible western bypass options for Woodend and in particular to determine whether the conclusion reached by Transit, to eliminate further consideration of the full western options, was sound.

Selwyn District Plan Review
The Selwyn District Council (SDC) proposes to revise the District Plan's transport provisions to ensure they reflect the strategic direction of Council. Recent updates and amendments to national and regional policy documents will also be reviewed. ViaStrada has been commissioned to review the Plan and prepare the resulting Plan Change.

Selwyn Walking and Cycling Paths
ViaStrada has recently undertaken feasibility assessments of seven walking and cycling infrastructure projects for Selwyn District Council. We developed scheme plans for each of the projects and used these to estimate costs of construction and maintenance.

Alton Street Cafe
ViaStrada obtained a non-notified land use consent for the applicants to operate a cafe with less than required parking.

Hornby to Prebbleton Rail Trail
ViaStrada was engaged by Christchurch City Council to undertake the scheme design of the Hornby to Prebbleton part of the Christchurch to Little River Rail Trail. This followed on from our office undertaking the feasibility study for this section.

The Hornby to Prebbleton section of the Christchurch to Little River Rail Trail was officially opened on 20 September by mayors Bob Parker (Christchurch City) and Kelvin Coe (Selwyn District).

Rail Trail traffic counting
ViaStrada undertook and analysed counts of cycle traffic on the two existing sections of the Little River Rail Trail. This was done on behalf of the Christchurch City and Selwyn District councils. We estimated the yearly use of the Birchs Road site to be 42,700 cyclists.

Advanced Cycle Planning and Design Training Courses
On behalf of NZTA, ViaStrada has been developing an Advanced Cycling Planning and Design Course to expand on the Fundamentals of Planning and Design for Cycling course. Christchurch Traffic Screenline Survey 1988
Recorded for posterity - a historic report of a traffic survey of 1988 at 46 locations throughout Christchurch, using the railway lines as a traffic counting screenline.
