Surveyors on Princes Street, Dunedin

ViaStrada completed a safety, accessibility and condition audit of over 800 bus stops for Otago Regional Council and Dunedin City Council over March and April 2024.

Local safety improvement proposed in TikipungaThe Tikipunga Single Stage Business case aimed to develop both the Tikipunga route (between Central Whangārei and Tikipunga) as well as local links within the communities of Tikipunga and Otangarei.

Completed concurrently with the Whangārei Citywide Programme Business Case, this project built upon the strategic context, demand model and prioritisation processes, with a focus on design, economics, management, and commercial cases for implementation of active travel facilities in Tikipunga, Otangarei and the routes connecting these communities’ to town.
 

Cover of PowerPoint report of the Trails Plan for the Far North of NZTe Mahere o te ara tawhiti ki te Raki, the Far North Trails Plan had the goal of developing a prioritised list of future routes to extend the walking and cycling trails network in the Far North. 

Current state of Commercial Street, KaitāiaThe Far North District Council commissioned ViaStrada and Abley to develop a geo-spatial approach to determining the annual investment required to improve footpaths in the largest towns. For each town, we prioritised the gaps in the network and estimated the financial investment required to meet a benchmark level of service over various time horizons. We also mapped all streets by ideal pedestrian crossing type to inform future crossing analysis and improvements.

Single Stage Business Case report title pageViaStrada worked with WSP and Dunedin City Council to complete a Single-Stage Business Case (SSBC) to determine secure bicycle parking needs and locations within Dunedin central city.

Four concept drawings for intersection crossings on Clyde/ Forth StreetsViaStrada provided professional advice to council staff so they in turn could have a discussion with elected members regarding the Albany Street cycleway through the tertiary precinct.

30km/h Central City signWhat impact has a speed limit drop from 50 to 30 km/h had in the CBD after its implementation in March 2016? ViaStrada conducted studies in 2019 and again in 2022 to compare crash and safety outcomes.

e-scooter rider beside a pedestrian on a footpathViaStrada was commissioned by legal representatives of three e-scooter sharing companies to prepare an affidavit for the court on the safety and regulation of e-scooters. This follows on from our NZ Transport Agency Research Report 621 Regulations and safety for electric bicycles and other low-powered vehicles.
